Um, SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, obviously.

One of the biggest twists in the new Star Wars movie was, of course, the true heritage of villain Kylo Ren. Revealed as Ben Solo, the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, he had turned to the dark side of the Force.

Of course, it wasn’t going quite as planned, and the man, with Skywalker and Solo blood coursing through his veins, was drawn to return to the light side. In the film, he asked his father for help in doing something he couldn’t do alone – but it turned out that was help in killing dear old daddy Han to go full dark side, not help in returning.

In a tight embrace, Kylo Ren ignites his red lightsaber, driving it up the torso and out the back of Han Solo.

Well, as it turns out, a very similar embrace-stab played out in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. A video of the death has been making the rounds again this week.

After an alternate (non-canon, even at the time) ending where the Starkiller clone chooses the dark path, DLC let you then play out the Battle of Endor as a villain. There is Ewok choking, and a base infiltration sequence that sees two beloved characters meet their end.

After forcing Han Solo to inadvertently shoot and kill his best friend Chewbacca (whoooops), Starkiller approached Han, stabbing him through the torso and out his back in a tight embrace with his red lightsaber. The moment is very similar in staging to Han’s final moments in The Force Awakens, even if it has literally nothing else in common with the scene.

Regardless, it’s nice to see this underrated game getting some respect. The game featured the continuing story of Starkiller, a secret apprentice of Darth Vader who attempted to fight his programming and turn against the dark side, helping to ignite the rebellion, instead. Never has a sequel so drastically improved the gameplay of the first game, while simultaneously falling so far short of the first’s story.

Sadly, Galen “Starkiller” Malek is now relegated to Legends status, and probably won’t ever see the light of Canon continuity again, but at least he can say that in an alternate, alternate reality, he gave Han the ‘ole Torso Saber first.
