President Barack Obama has already established himself as the coolest President ever when it comes to pop culture, and he added to his legacy in his nomination speech for Judge Sonia Sotamayor for the Supreme Court. What other President would make two references to Nancy Drew in nominating a new Supreme Court Justice?According to Papercutz, the publisher behind Nancy Drew graphic novels, President Barack Obama said, “Judge Sotomayor’s interest in the law was sparked as a young girl by reading the Nancy Drew series. And that when she was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 8, she was informed that people with diabetes can’t grow up to be police officers or private investigators like Nancy Drew. In essence, she was told she’d have to scale back her dreams.”President Obama’s mention of Nancy Drew couldn’t come at a better time, as the girl detective will soon be celebrating her 80th anniversary. The website iParenting.com also recently recognized Papercutz’s Nancy Drew graphic novel #15 with an iParenting Media Award as an outstanding product for children.”As someone who is part Puerto Rican, who spent my early years, like Judge Sonia Sotamayor, growing up in a housing project in The Bronx, it was quite thrilling to hear that she was the President’s nominee for the Supreme Court and how inspirational Nancy Drew was to her,” said Jim Salicrup, who is Editor-in-Chief of Papercutz. “I believe Nancy is just as inspiring today, and continues to embrace the values that have made her such an enduring icon for so many generations.”While President Obama might have mentioned Nancy Drew, it is the Hardy Boys that the President will soon be meeting. According to Papercutz, President Obama has a cameo apearance in The Hardy Boys Graphic Novel #16 “Shhhhhh!” Unlike Obama’s other recent comic book appearances, his appearance in the Hardy Boys graphic novel will be very presidential. Obama will be shown giving a speech about libraries, which is something he did in real life as a senator.
