The moment has finally come when Negan’s infamous introduction from The Walking Dead‘s one hundredth issue has been adapted to TV series. In the translation, though, the showrunners decided to turn the epic and brutal moment into an excruciating cliff hanger which will have fans around the world guessing, “Who did he kill?” for months.

While there’s no way to come up with a definitive answer based on the concluding moments of The Walking Dead‘s sixth season, we can estimate the odds of each character involved.

Rick is safe. Negan can’t kill Rick – not because Rick can’t be killed off. If Negan killed Rick, Alexandria would rally as a whole. Rick got them where they are and the resentment for Negan would hit a high for every single person in the Safe-Zone, resulting in Negan’s message backfiring. He wants this people to work for him. Breaking their leader and bending him to Negan’s own will shows Alexandria that they must follow suit.

Also safe, is Carl. While it wouldn’t be easy for Rick to let Negan kill any of his friends, if it were Carl, it wouldn’t happen. Rick would die before allowing a man to beat his son’s head in.

Then there’s Maggie. It’s a bit of a toss up here. The signs point to Maggie being safe, though. Negan approached her early in his monologue and Glenn quickly stepped to her aid. His efforts were shut down but in addition to Maggie being spared earlier, a woman is clearly heard screaming during the traumatic blows which capped the episode and someone’s life and our bet is those were from Maggie.

Do we think Negan killed Michonne or Daryl? The latter is definitely a more likely bet. One would have to assume Rick would’ve stepped up to defend her, much like her would have for Carl, or Glenn would have for Maggie. Daryl, on the other hand, would likely deny anyone’s help and the group knows that. His death would be horrifying for audiences and the characters surrounding him but he would wave anyone trying to help him off as he all but sacrificed himself so the group could survive.

Of course, Aaron, Rosita, Eugene, Sasha and Abraham are all viable options but the only character who wouldn’t significantly cheapen this epic kill would be Abraham. However, Abraham’s escaping of his own comic book death in giving it to Denise leads me to believe he has a larger purpose going forward. Let’s rule out the three of them.

Any way you slice it, it all leads to the final and most likely candidate, Glenn Rhee. We all know that in the comics it was Glenn who got the bat from Negan. Serving the moment up exactly as it was portrayed in the comics would’ve been shocking to those oblivious to how it went down on the pages but predictable for the majority who aren’t. So, rather than spoon feed us Glenn’s infamous death, the showrunners wisely decided to turn it into a topic of conversation for the next eight months.

The Walking Dead will return in October. The next bits we’ll see will come out of San Diego Comic Con in July where AMC likes to drop their new trailer.
