While not the most shocking declaration made by a studio head, Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes has proclaimed that Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice is 2016’s most anticipated movie.
During Time Warner’s annual meeting today, Bewkes talked up the incoming superhero skirmish between its two biggest DC Comics characters. In outlining Warner Bros.’ comic book movie plans, Bewkes revealed that they hope to release up-to 10 DC Comics movies within the next few years. Those plans officially begin with Batman V. Superman, the “no more anticipated movie” for 2016, according to Bewkes.

While some entitiesโlike Marvel Studiosโmight disagree with that statement, Bewkes probably isn’t too far off the mark. Indeed, Batman V. Superman is not only the first film ever to feature multiple DC Comics properties, but it also sets the foundation for the Justice League movieโwhich Bewkes will probably label as the most anticipated film of 2017.
Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder and stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. It hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
