In 1991, Sega released the first ToeJam & Earl video game. It was about two alien rappers that crash landed on Earth and go on a journey to find pieces of their spacecraft, which are strewn across the planet. A fun little game which is best known for its blend of humor and funk music. The game was considered a sleeper hit and spawned two sequels. Though, they weren’t as well liked as the original game.
Now, co-creator Greg Johnson is looking to create a true sequel without his vision being compromised by a large video game publisher, like the last two games were. To do so, he has started a Kickstarter campaign. He is seeking 400K to complete his game and within hours of the announcement he has received $75K.
“We plan to go old school with this one,” Johnson wrote on theย Kickstarter page. “Fixed isometric camera, 2D sprites, simple controls, and an emphasis on coop play. It will also pull in some of the more beloved elements from game two, AND we have a list of exciting new gameplay elements planned as well.”
