After a starring run in the second season of Peaky Blinders, the actor decided to bring his own show to life. Based on a story Hardy wrote with his father, he created Taboo for BBC One and FX.
Taboo was an instant hit with fans, and critics have done nothing but rave about it’s incredible story. While it was presented as a mini-series, there was always room for more story – and the networks are confident that they want to see it told.
FX announced today that the series was getting renewed for a second season.
The second season – just like the first – will stream on both FX and BBC One, as it will be simultaneously released in both the US and UK.
The executives at FX were happy to announce a second season of the show, as Eric Schrier – President of original programming at FX – released this statement:
“Taboo’s first season was exceptional and its success on FX is testament to the creative excellence and dedication of the producers, cast and crew,” said Eric Schrier, President of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions. “We are proud to again join BBC One and Sonar Entertainment in partnering with Scott Free London and Hardy Son & Baker on the second season and look forward to working again with the great Tom Hardy, Steven Knight, Ridley Scott, Chips Hardy and everyone who makes Taboo so remarkable.”.

As you can imagine, the folks at the network weren’t the only people celebrating this milestone. Ridley Scott – the director of Alien – served as an executive producer during the first season, and he had this to say about the renewal:
“We’re thrilled people want to know what happens next and that the BBC and FX are up for more adventures with the devil Delaney and the league of the damned. Along with our international distributors, Sonar Entertainment, the BBC and FX have been great partners, supporting Taboo at every stage so it could be the dark, dirty brute of a drama that it is.”
The show’s creator Steven Knight also chimed in on the announcement:
“I’m thrilled that a work which pushes boundaries has been so well received and found such a large and enthusiastic audience in the U.S. and Britain. We have tried to take an impressionistic, rather than figurative, approach to a narrative which we hope more accurately portrays the spirit of an extraordinary time in history. James Delaney will continue to explore many realities as he takes his band of misfits to a new world, thanks to FX and the BBC, partners who could not be more suited to collaborating in ground breaking work.”
