The trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight finally released, giving us a visual glimpse into Michael Bay’s last entry in the Transformers live-action movie franchise.

With previous confirmation that the storyline, which is shrouded in mystery, would connect with the historical tale of King Arthur and his legendary sword Excalibur, we didn’t see much of that in this teaser except for the first 3 seconds.

Instead we saw a half-dead Optimus Prime floating in outer-space, what we think is a first glimpse at Unicron, numerous historical events, and the possible current destruction of earth, all narrated by the brilliant Anthony Hopkins.

…And that there is a war going on between humans and robots. As usual.

In a recent on-set interview, Lorenzo di Bonaventura explained what Transformers: The Last Knight hopes to do:

“And this movie, the two lines of mythology give you freedom to go a lot of different places later on that may or may not directly relate to another movie, but it’s opening up the universe in a way that’s probably the most provocative, in terms of the movie. It’s opening a really large universe of what Transformers is, and where they’ve come from, and how we relate to them, and how they relate to themselves.”

Yes, we recognize that this IS a Transformers movie with all of the robots and explosions, but the new teaser trailer gave us very little by way of a storyline that actually made any sense. So, We have some questions…

Who Is Anthony Hopkins?

The first thing we hear is the elegant voice of Anthony Hopkins explaining that nothing ever happens without sacrifice.

But who is he?

The teaser did not lend any hints as to who or what his character may be in Transformers: The Last Knight.

In a quick flash we do see him waving his hand over a large coin-like artifact that has a Latin inscription that reads:

“There is No Victory Without Suffering”

He also seems to be standing in a darkened room full of…history.

If you look closely enough, you can see what MIGHT be a huge sword handle.

Maybe Anthony Hopkins’ character is a collector of historical artifacts of sorts…or a member of The Knights Templar.

After all, most previous Transformers movies had to do with how they mysteriously affect OUR history.

Is This Unicron

Alright, this might be a stretch…but did we just catch a glimpse of Unicron covered in sand on a distant planet?

We know that Unicron is the the eternal arch-enemy of his twin brother Primus, and he’s very large due to all of that planet and universe eating he does.

Also, the film is rumored to explore the history of the Primes.

He actually eats planets, stars, and his ultimate goal is to destroy the entire multiverse.

If you take Unicron, turn him sideways and bury him in dunes of galactic sand…this might be his “horn” sticking out.

Who Is The Little Girl

We immediately recognized three characters in the new Transformers: The Last Knight teaser.

Cade Yeager (Mark Whalburg) with longer hair (hinting that some time has passed), Anthony Hopkins, and the return ofย Josh Duhamel asย Lt. Colonel William Lennox.

No, we didn’t see Tyrese Gibson either!

However, we are unsure of who this new and very heroic young girl is.

She is clearly a fighter and most-likely a perfectly placed role model for females as she claims, “No, I want to stay and fight!”

But…other than knowing that her name in real life is Isabella Moner from Nickelodeon fame and she seems to be playing Cade Yaeger’s trusty girl power sidekick, we don’t know anything about her actual character.

Well, her name is also Izabella in the movie and she’s a tough street-kid who befriended a new, but broken and adorable Transformer named Sqweeks.ย

But…where did she come from and what is she going to do to help save the world?

Is she our new hero?

Is The Earth Destroyed

We noted earlier that the new Transformers: The Last Knight teaser tells us that Optimus Prime has left Earth and we see him half-dead or totally dead floating off in space somewhere.

The trailer quickly shuffles through a number of scenes that look current (among the many historical looking scenes like the Nazi castle explosion).

The trailer does lend to the idea that it’s humans versus robots.

In all of these current scenes, the Decepticons or bad robots seem to be blowing everything up, and the world looks like it’s either being destroyed or already in ruins.

All while Anthony Hopkins is talking about two worlds colliding…

A clear sign of this is when a group of young boys are seen walking through a crushed sports stadium, and the streets of a town are being controlled by evil-looking robots.

So, is the planet completely destroyed already in Transformers: The Last Knight?

It sure does look like it…doesn’t it?

Why is Optimus Attacking Bumblebee

These two are supposed to be best friends, right?

For some reason unknown, Optimus Prime, the fearless leader of the Autobots, is physically attacking both Bumblebee and Cade Yaeger in the Transformers: The Last Knight teaser trailer.

Why is he doing this?

We did notice that Optimus has a different eye-color than his usual bright blue.

Is it possible that he is possessed or questioning his leadership?

His one line of dialogue is also rather confusing, “Forgive me,” as he slams Bumblebee and Cade into the ground about to stab them both to death.

We already can’t get Mark Wahlburg’s face and terrifying scream out of our heads.

Why is Optimus Prime trying to kill them? Is he a reluctant villain?

According to Collider’s recent set visit:

“Regarding the antagonists of the film, it looks like we’re going to get a new villain. Di Bonaventura said it will be “A surprise, I think, as you discover who the villain is. So in that respect, that is a very different kind of Decepticon form, if you would. I think that the understanding of the mythology, as you begin to unveil it, you’ll understand just how big the jeopardy that we’re going to face is.”
