When it comes to anime, Hollywood has trouble getting it right. The Japanese medium is one of the most prolific and popular points in global entertainment, but the West has struggled to bring anime to the silver screen.

If you are a fan of anime, then you already know not to talk about movies like Dragon Ball Evolution or The Guyver. Even Kite and Fist of the North Star are touch-and-go with some anime purists, and fans are all but certain Hollywood will never do justice to the medium. Next year, Ghost in the Shell will see its Hollywood adaptation hit theaters, and the film has been subjected to intense scrutiny because of anime’s dark history abroad.
So, it’s not shocking to hear that plenty of fans are wary about Hollywood and its plans to adapt Naruto into a live-action movie. Lionsgate is moving ahead with the project, and creator Masashi Kishimoto has confirmed he is involved with the film. Now, Twitter is taking a stand when it comes to the Naruto endeavor, so you better buckle in for a bumpy ride.
Believe it!

This user’s chain of tweets are as sharp as any ninja’s kunai. Clearly, they are not too impressed by the adaptation and Hollywood’s history of whitewashing.ย

Let’s all just take a moment and envision Justin Beiber donning Naruto’s iconic orange garb. Think about it.ย
I’m drunk and my friend convinced me Justin Beiber is gonna be Naruto in a live action movie. I hate everything

Clearly, Robert Pattinson is a contender to play Sasuke Uchiha. The actor does have experience playing broody, super-strong leads after all.ย

So many questions. So, so many questions. See? This is why we don’t mess with the timelines, Barry!
Live action Naruto movie happening. Don’t blame Hollywood, blame a certain speedster who created Flashpoint. Thanks Barry.

While a gender-bent version of Orochimaru is not wholly unwelcome, the slithery character may be a bit too dark for these starlets. But, hey – there are fans who can get behind Ben Affleck!
I will only watch the Naruto live action film if they cast Ben Affleck as Naruto and make him ninja run accurately.
โ Derriรจre Connoisseur (@BardockObama) December 17, 2016
Caitlyn Jenner or Taylor Swift should be Orochimaru in the new live action Naruto film.

Poor Tilda Swinton. Ever since her Doctor Strange casting, she has become a lightning rod of whitewashing jokes.ย

We don’t speak of the latter film. Don’t even say its name.ย
If the Naruto live action Hollywood movie sucks with Kishimoto being involved then it’ll be a bigger fail than Dragon Ball evolution

Again, gender-bending is not a totally uncalled for decision, but let’s just think about this proposition for a second.ย
okay but who do y’all think they’re gonna cast as naruto for the live action movie…is it gonna be jennifer lawrence or scarlett johansson?

Given the success of Naruto‘s live-action play in Japan it would make sense of Lionsgate to at least consider being canonical when it comes to appearances.ย
Dear Lionsgate, please consider the cast of the live-action Naruto stage play in Japan to reference what to do with your movie pic.twitter.com/srgFx35tQL
