Earlier this week, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for The Iron Giant: Signature Edition. A digitally re-mastered version of the 1999 film is being released in theaters on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 and Sunday October 4, 2015.
However, the rerelease might not be the only plans that Warner Bros. has in store for the cult classic film. Earlier today, Vin Diesel took to social media to drop a surprising tease about the film. Diesel wrote, “I have been very lucky to have played so many interesting characters… one of the first and one of my favorites is… the Iron Giant. P.s. Don’t be surprised when you hear WB announce the sequel.”

Notice that Diesel didn’t say “if you hear” Warner Bros. announce a sequel but rather “when you hear” Warner Bros. announce a sequel. Usually, when Diesel teases something on social media, it turns out to be true, as such was the case with him joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Iron Giant is an animated adaptation of Ted Hughes’ Cold War fable, a giant alien robot (Vin Diesel) crash-lands near the small town of Rockwell, Maine, in 1957. Exploring the area, a local 9-year-old boy, Hogarth, discovers the robot, and soon forms an unlikely friendship with him. When a paranoid government agent, Kent Mansley, becomes determined to destroy the robot, Hogarth and beatnik Dean McCoppin (Harry Connick Jr.) must do what they can to save the misunderstood machine.
