In the age of Marvel Studios, comic book fans have become quite spoiled with boisterous, high-end openings to cartoons and movies. But, as Jimmy Kimmel pointed out, the Merry Marvelites of yesteryear didn’t have it quite so cushy.

During last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel waxed nostalgia over the cheesy, C-Level openings used for Marvel’s old cartoon shows from the late nineteen sixties. And as Kimmel points out, the intros were a little moreโฆambiguous than what most modern viewers are used to. But are the intros parodies, or the real deal? We’ll let you decide. Here’s hoping the big opening sequence for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron feels a little more ambitious when it hits theaters on May 1.
