Following the midseason premiere of The Walking Dead, the tenth episode of the show’s sixth season started off with a time jump. Carl recovered from his injury, Michonne and Rick are playing house, and Alexandria was restored to it’s Safe-Zone state of mind.

However, the events of that time jump were left up to the viewer’s imagination, unless explained in later episodes.

Fans who read the comics know what happened, though, and looking at the events, it’s probably a good thing they were skipped.

Carl Loses His Memory

After spending weeks in bed recovering from his gun shot wound, Carl Grimes finally woke up. He didn’t exactly jump out of bed, happy to see everyone. Rather, he had suffered some severe memory loss.

One of his first questions was about his mother Lori, who is long dead at this point, and if she was around. Rick, who admitted during Carl’s coma that he doubted he would ever wake, had to tell Carl of Lori’s fate, his baby sister’s (who died with Lori in the comics), and who Denise and the rest of Alexandria were.

Rick responds poorly to Carl’s loss of memory, lashing out at him and eventually breaks down in a scene with Andrea (yes, she’s still alive in the comic and filling the role Michonne is on TV). Andrea snaps him out of it and he patches things up with his son.

Zombie Jessie

Jessie’s unfortunate and well-earned death wasn’t the last time we saw her in the comics. A zombified version appears in a later issue and she’s not quite as cute as she was before.

Rick’s former love is found growling on the ground with her hand hardly hanging on by Abraham and Glenn. After some debate over what to do, Abraham puts Jessie down to ensure Rick won’t ever find her this way.

Rick Hallucinates – Round 2

We all got more than enough of Rick hallucinating back in season three when he thought his dead wife had a direct line to call him at the prison. And again when he would see her in the cell blocks and around the prison yard.

Well, the comics decided it would be a good time for Rick to hallucinate again while Carl was in a coma, in almost the exact same way.

Luckily, the TV show saw the horror in boring audiences with the same storyline that bored us once.

Abraham’s Love Triangle

During the equivalent time which would have passed in The Walking Dead‘sย time jump on TV, Abraham found himself with a bit of a revolving door attached to his bedroom.ย

In fact, he ends up leaving Rosita behind for another woman. Her name is Holly. While Holly hasn’t appeared on the TV series, it sure does look like oleย honest Abe could end up leaving Rosita in the dust for Sashaย (who, like Daryl, doesn’t exist in the comics).

Winter Comes

The time jump skipped an entire winter season where snow fell in Alexandria. The walkers were harder to spot, supply runs were more difficult, and certain scenes had heavier emotional impacts. That said, The Walking Dead still films down in Georgia despite now being set in Alexandria, Virginia, so snow could be a bit of a challenge (but that’s something those producers never shy away from, anyway).

By the way, if you haven’t read the comics, around the time of the time jump’s landing is where Rick found his new love interest. It wasn’t Michonne. It was Andrea, who is very much alive and very much bad-ass in the comics, unlike her portrayal on television.
