During a Twitter exchange with a fan, Cable creator Rob Liefeld suggested that the time-traveling offspring of Natalie Pryor and Scott Summers won’t appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past.Following on the heels of yesterday’s revelation that time-traveling mutant Bishop will be included in the film, there’s been some speculation as to whether Cable, the other major X-Men time traveler, might take part in the festivities as well. When the question was addressed to the character’s creator, Liefeld had a surprising response.”As I understand it, Cable was in early drafts but no longer,” Liefeld said via Twitter.Obviously the famed comics artist isn’t playing a key role in production, so it’s entirely possible he could be left out of the loop. Still, given his greater-than-usual creator participation in a number of the Marvel properties he originated, Liefeld seems likelier than the average comic book creator to have an understanding of what role his creations will play in other media. How Cable might have been fit into earlier drafts is an interesting question–and one that could suggest at least a cameo from Cyclops and Pryor or even just Jean Grey (of whom Pryor is a clone), in spite of the fact that they both died in the Brett Ratner-directed X-Men: The Last Stand, to which X-Men: Days of Future Past is a sequel. Whether that’s a fair assumption–and whether such an appearance might still happen without Cable in the script–is impossible to say.X-Men: Days of Future Past is currently in production under X-Men director Bryan Singer, who has suggested they’ll be bringing the film to Comic-Con International in July.
