No matter who’s under the cowl, Batgirl is one of the best heroes in all of Gotham. Whether it’s Barbara Gordon in the field or tech support, Cassandra Cain as the best fighter, or Stephanie Brown being an authentic hero for those in need. The mantle of Batgirl is one of the most respected titles. There are plenty of incredible costumes she’s had over the years. And while Steph and Cass have very limited alternate looks, their looks are very iconic.

Barbara has had a few variations, and all of hers have looked good. No matter who you like most as Batgirl, we can all agree, she’s been one of the best characters to fight alongside the Caped Crusader over the years. With all of the updates to her costumes, she’ll always be one of the best to put on the bat symbol for all time.
5) First Appearance

The original Batgirl costume is the blueprint for what she would wear for the rest of her career. A simple black costume with yellow accents and her fiery red hair out of the cowl was a nice, distinct choice. Making the dynamic duo a terrific trio of sorts. Each character had their own unique sense of identity, and Batgirl exemplified it the best. Adding a dark shade to her costume and using more gadgets to help her made her stand out. While it may seem outdated now, it’s still an incredible costume to debut in.
4) New 52

A whole lot can be said about the New 52 as a whole. But as controversial as it was at the time, bringing Barbara Gordon back as Batgirl for the first time since the ’80s, it paid off so well. Gail Simone’s Batgirl is regarded as one of Barbara’s best runs, and her costume was utterly perfect. Switching out the previously yellow parts of her costume with gold and a new shade of black, Barbara was back and better than ever.
This suit marks a new spark with Batgirl, bringing her back into the spotlight. While she’s gone back to being Oracle, this was a perfect suit for her. The purple cape with the gold added so much for her. While she would change her suit later, this was an incredible one for her and matched the incredible series as well.
3) Stephanie Brown’s Batsuit

While she may not be the best character to succeed as Batman, Steph may be the most well-rounded person in the Bat-family. With more purple accents to her costume to show her time as Spoiler in her past, this was one of the best Batgirl suits. It was gone way too quick, but we’ll always remember it. It may be more of the same for some, but it’s less about how this suit looks and more about how Steph embodies it.
Steph’s attitude and demeanor are more open than Cassandra Cain or Barbara Gordon. You can see this costume as the “fun Batgirl” out of the trio. If only she had more prominent purple accents, this could have been the best Batgirl suit in theory.
2) Batgirl of Burnside

With a slight color change after coming back to the mantle, the Burnside Batgirl suit is one of her best. It sparked a bold new era for Barbara and has long been a fan favorite since 2014. While she didn’t use it then, it was the best suit for her to fight Killer Moth in. As much as the previous costume signifies rebirth, this one has become her main ever since. Switching out the purple cape for a black cape and a purple suit, it’s perfection for Barbara.
While it originally had a “C.W.” look to it in the beginning, keeping this color scheme with minimal changes has been incredible for her. Even inspired the ill-fated Batgirl film on top of everything. It’s Barb’s best costume, even if she doesn’t call herself Batgirl while wearing it. I’m always thrown off when she’s fighting people in it and answers a call as Oracle, very odd.
1) Cassandra Cain’s Batsuit

The daughter of two of the deadliest assassins in all of DC, Cassandra Cain has the best Batgirl costume. A full body costume as well as a quiet personality, Cass is a lot scarier than Batman. While Barbara started the legacy, Cass was the first Batgirl since and carried the mantle perfectly. Wanting to be the best hero she could after everything, the all black costume helps her stealth ability. With minimal yellow accents, she soars above the rest as Batgirl.
On top of being a fan favorite as Batgirl, Cass has finally returned to that title in a new solo series. With no changes to the costume, it’s perfect for a Batgirl costume. Keeping the wearer’s identity hidden perfectly, Cass will always be the most unique Batgirl of the bunch. She’s also the first member of the Bat Family I’d be horrified to see if I were a criminal.
