The Avengers are a combination of the some of the most powerful heroes ever. They’re known as the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and they’ve had to face off against the most dangerous villains in the Marvel Universe. The Avengers have a pretty cool rogues gallery, a nice combination of villains that are headlined by the most deadly enemies imaginable. Much like any other hero or superteam, the Avengers’ rogues gallery has tiers. Some of them are pretty tame as far as supervillains go, but other of them are the kind of villains that eat everyone in front of them for breakfast. Some Avengers villains aren’t scary and others are the most terrifying villains out there.

The most terrifying Avengers villains are on another level. They’ve committed terrible atrocities over the years and have challenged the Avengers in ways no other villains could. These ten Avengers villains are the scariest the team has faced, the team losing sleep every time they show up.
7) Red Skull

Marvel is full of creepy villains, but few of them can match the Red Skull. The Red Skull is a monster of the highest order. He’s a Nazi who only wants to bring back the racist Reich that made him one of the world’s most feared terrorists. The Red Skull is mostly known as a Captain America villain, but he’s battled the Avengers numerous times over the decades. Red Skull is so terrifying not because he’s so powerful, but because he’ll kill as many as people as possible every time he shows up. Red Skull is all about genocide, and that means that the Avengers shudder every time they hear his name.
6) The Apocalypse Twins

The Avengers stories of the 2010s are a cut above and they introduced two of the scariest Avengers villains ever. The Apocalypse Twins are the children of Archangel and Pestilence, raised in a future mutant concentration camp by Kang. Uriel and Eimin were meant to be used as a weapon by Kang against the Avengers, but instead they decided to destroy humanity and make a paradise for mutants. They targeted the Celestials and were able to convince them to destroy the Earth, all while keeping one step ahead of the Avengers, beating them in battle and turning the public against them. The Apocalypse Twins tested the most powerful heroes on the Earth and found them wanting, and were only finally defeated because of time travel shenanigans. Otherwise, they easily outclassed the Avengers.
5) Grim Reaper

The Grim Reaper is the brother of Wonder Man, and has made it his mission in life to make Wonder Man and the Avengers suffer. The Grim Reaper is a madman who has died multiple times, always coming back to go after Wonder Man. The Grim Reaper will go to any length to hurt the Avengers, and has mastered necromantic magic in order to make his war against the Avengers neverending. The Grim Reaper doesn’t want money or power, he just wants death and revenge, putting him on another level than other Avengers villains. He’s not the most powerful bad guy, but he’s as bloodthirsty as they come.
4) Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom is one of Marvel’s greatest monsters, and has battled the Avengers numerous times. While he’s most well-known as an enemy of the Fantastic Four, the Avengers have had to deal with Doom many times. Doom is smarter than any member of the Avengers and has mastered magic. His armor is extremely advanced and dangerous, and the Avengers know that every time he shows up for battle, they’re in for a rough fight. Doctor Doom never backs down and will go to any length to win. The Avengers would rather never have to deal with Doctor Doom, as his sheer threat gives them nightmares.
3) Thanos

Thanos is the scariest villain in the Marvel Universe. Thanos has enough blood on his hands to drown entire planets, and the Avengers have had to face him numerous times, not always coming out of those fights fresh as a daisy. Thanos is powerful enough to defeat pretty much any Avengers team out there that has ever existed. The Avengers don’t ever want to have to fight Thanos, because the odds that he’s going to bring some all-powerful weapon that makes him a god with him are near even. Thanos is a threat to the planet every time he enters the atmosphere and the Avengers count their lucky stars that Thanos has never actually set out to kill them, because the fact of the matter is that Thanos could run through most of the team.
2) Kang the Conqueror

Kang the Conqueror may not seem like much, but he’s one of the most dangerous beings to ever exist in the Marvel Universe. Kang the Conqueror came from a far future where all conflict was over. Kang got bored and decided to become the greatest conqueror in the history of time. Using powerful technology, Kang traveled the timestream and conquered everything he could, destroying entire timelines himself. Kang has killed countless versions of the Avengers over the years, as well as many cultures up and down the timeline. Kang the Conqueror is way more dangerous than he looks, and the Avengers never know just how far Kang will go to win.
1) Ultron

Ultron has changed a lot over the years, but there’s one thing that has always been the same about Ultron โ he’s the scariest Avengers villain. Ultron doesn’t have the kills of Kang or Thanos, and isn’t as smart as Doom. However, what makes Ultron so terrifying is his resolve. Ultron hates humanity with a burning passion and will never stop in his mission to destroy all biological life everywhere he can. That’s what makes Ultron so frightening. Ultron doesn’t believe that any biological entity should exist, and has made it his mission in life to destroy them all. Even Thanos has feelings beyond hate, but Ultron doesn’t. He’s a murder machine and that’s all there is to it.
