Absolute Superman exists at a nebulous point for a lot of DC fans. For some, they might see it as the most underwhelming of the three original Absolute launch titles but for others, they’re all on par with each other as they tell unique and interesting stories of wildly different versions of beloved heroes. The differences also include the villains, especially in Absolute Superman which took the big swing of making one of Batman’s oldest foes Superman’s main enemy here.

But while it’s cool it is to see a Batman villain totally reimagined for Superman, it would be nice to see some classic Superman villains get the Absolute treatment as well. Here are seven we’d like to see.
1) Lex Luthor

The most notable missing character in the Absolute Universe, fans have been wanting to see Absolute Lex Luthor. Given how integral to Superman’s mythos Lex is in the main universe, he still hasn’t appeared in Absolute proper yet. His absence is notable and it’s one we’d like to see change soon.
As for what Absolute Lex Luthor could be, there are a lot of directions things could go, but one take would be to flip the script and make him a good guy. He very well could be a noble person out of the goodness of his heart. If there was ever a place to make Lex a genuine hero, the Absolute universe would be it.
2) Parasite

Rudy Jones, aka the Parasite, has long been a classic Superman foe. With absorbing energy as his main powers, he could be a strong weapon for the Lazarus Corp. Based off of how he usually is presented in comics, he’s likely one of the only villains who’d remain evil in this world. With a fun power set to counteract nearly anyone he encounters, he’d be fun to see in this universe. After all, adding the creepy factor is always a good thing.
3) Livewire

Usually the shock jock of Metropolis, Livewire is fan favorite DC character who got their start in an animated series before jumping to comics. While she’s not on the same level of popularity as Harley Quinn, Livewire has caught the attention of many fans, making her a character we want to see in the Absolute universe. Another character that could be a Lazarus experiment, seeing Livewire arrive here would be a great addition, either as a friend or foe for Kal
One of the only likely allies for this world’s Kal, Livewire would be a great help for Kal on many fronts. With no one outside of Sol on his side, Kal needs a lot more help than he has here. Livewire could see him as a kindred spirit of sorts andit could be super cool to see in the future.
4) Mr. Mxyzptlk

Easily the funnest Superman enemy in any universe, Mr. Mxyzptlk would be the character of levity for the Man of Steel here. Rumored to be another character that there’s only one of in the multiverse, Mxy would still make heading into the Absolute universe work. Popping over into a darker universe seems like his m.o., to be honest. Messing with a darker Kal, Mxy would either be the best thing for Superman or the worst.
5) Jax-Ur

More of a deep cut Superman villain, Jax-Ur is often seen as a great value General Zod and that’s exactly why we’d love to see him in Absolute Superman. A character that’s often lost to time for a lot of reasons, he has had a recent resurgence in a few years. Bringing him back now as a stand in for Zod like he did in Superman: The Animated Series would be great to see once again.
6) Toyman

Winslow Schott, the murderous toy maker known as Toyman, would be another villain of levity for Superman in the Absolute universe. With classic toys redesigned as weapons, he could hide in plain sight as a villain. What side he’d be on us up for debate but if they decided to flip things and make him a force of good, he could always be another great help for Kal. As long as we get one of his notorious giant mech suits, Toyman would be super fun to see here.
7) Lobo

The Main Man is one character you don’t need to change all that much to get the same point across and we think he’d be perfect for Absolute Superman. Being one of the only people to go toe to toe with Supes generally, the fights with these two would be great to see in this darker world. An unhinged version of Kal against a remorseless killer would be something really new and interesting. And with Lobo set to appear in the upcoming Supergirl movie, the timing is just right.
8) Superboy-Prime

A character that Superman fans love to see even if they also kind of hate him, Superboy-Prime would be a fun character to see over here as well. Another character we don’t need another of in the multiverse but having him hop over here in the “dark universe” has a lot of social commentary waiting for it. Seen as a stand-in for toxic fans, Prime has often been one of the main universe’s deadliest threats. Having him hop over here to complain about what’s wrong in this universe would be glorious to see, even if maybe not quite the right fit just yet.
