Arrow sees its season finale tonight, and it promises to be a momentous one for the CW show that started the modern DC TV universe. The season has seen Oliver and his team delving into the supernatural, facing down the magically-powered foe Damian Darhk, lose a member of the team in battle, have relationships break asunder, and lose a massive chunk of Star City in the process.

Not a great year for Team Arrow.

“It’s a good finale. I’m very happy with it,” star Stephen Amell teased to Comicbook.com in an interview. The actor said the season ends with some major character development, and not just for his superheroic alter-ego.

“We see Oliver connecting with Star City in a way that he has never connected as Oliver Queen. We had an extreme in Season 1, and another extreme in Seasons 2, 3, and 4, and this was a choice that Oliver made,” Amell said. He’ll have another extreme moment – but the way he handles it is considerably different from his previous season-ending encounters. “But ultimately, life is not black and white, there are shades of grey, and we had him make a decision tonight, in the finale, and we had him make it in an incredibly deliberate, analytical way โ€“ not a hot-headed way, not a vengeful way, just quite simply, he does something that has to be done. I was very happy with how the finale came out.”

Amell couldn’t tease too much about Season 5 just yet, though he told us previously he’s excited for the show to get back into a more grounded, realistic world. As for a trip to Russia in his Season 5 flashback future, “I would watch the finale!” he teased with a bit of a chuckle.

Arrow Season 4 finale airs tonight at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. Arrow returns for a fifth season in the fall, with the same timeslot of Wednesdays at 8pm.
