Report: Robert Zemeckis Pitched A Movie To DC Films

If you’ve given up hope of Robert Zemeckis entering the DCEU, then you may want to reconsider. According to a new report by Variety, the famed filmmaker has apparently pitched a project to DC Films for consideration.

Earlier today, Ricardo Lopez wrote up an in-depth article analyzing the future line-up for DC Films. With two Joker films in the works, fans are wondering what else is happening behind the scenes, and Lopez suggests the Back to the Future visionary may be part of it.

“As the studio has labored to distinguish itself from Marvel, it has been actively entertaining pitches from directors around town,” the Variety piece says. “The likes of James Wan and Robert Zemeckis have made the trek to Burbank to sell the studio on their vision for the spandex set.”

Of course, fans should not be too surprised to hear Zemeckis brought up in conversation. The director has been linked to the DCUE as of late thanks to The Flash movie.

The standalone, which has since taken up the name Flashpoint, has yet to find a director after Rick Famuyiwa left the project. The director was the second to walk from The Flash since it went into development, but rumors surfaced that Zemeckis would be the third (and hopefully last) man to sit in the director’s chair.

The Wrap’s Umberto Gonazalez said Zemeckis was a frontrunner to helm The Flash back in May, but Warner Bros. never commented on the report. Screen Junkies also said the director was in talks for the superhero flick before Gonzalez jumped on-board, so fans are eager to see if Zemeckis is actually involved with the project.

So far, netizens seem pleased by the director’s supposed involvement. Many are starting to speculate Zemeckis may be the reason DC Films adopted the title Flashpoint; If the director had a brand-new pitch for The Flash, then it would make sense for a name change to follow. Now, the only thing fans can do is wait until Warner Bros. makes an official statement about the third (and final?) director for The Flash.
