Syfy's 'Krypton' Casts Shaun Sipos As Adam Strange

Krypton has added the character of Adam Strange to its lineup, thanks to the recently revealed announcement of actor Shaun Sipos (Vampire Diaries) taking on the role.

Syfy's official press release states that Krypton's version of Adam Strange will be a "world-weary human, who finds himself stranded on Krypton as the unlikely mentor to Seg-El, Superman's grandfather."

In DC Comics lore, Adam Strange was an archaeologist who got transported to a distant planet through a "Zeta-Beam." There, he was recruited by a local named Sardath and his lovely daughter Alanna to use the advanced technology of that world to become its protector. Even though Strange was eventually sent back to Earth, he used sporadic Zeta-Beam portals to routinely travel back across the cosmos to be with his lady love and defend her world.

Krypton will seemingly flip the Adam Strange character from "fish out of water" neophyte to a more experienced mentor type. It will be interesting to see how the show uses that connection between Earth and Krypton to shape the early Superman mythos -- or what the effects are of bringing a human to Krypton's world and environment. After all, we already know what happens when that situation is reversed...

You can catch Krypton when it premieres on Syfy sometime in 2018.
