In the world of cosplay, there are no rules. The hobby is an inclusive one as cosplay appeals to people of all sorts of backgrounds. Short or tall, male or female – cosplay is something anyone can get into with a little time and a lot of craft glue. And, in a surprising turn of events, it seem as if 50 Cent has just joined the so-called Cosplay Club.

The rapper recently posted a photo to Instagram that shows him cosplaying as DC Comics’ Cyborg. Posing with his son, 50 Cent published the picture along with a short message which reads, “Lol. the kid said he want a cyborg I said ok, then he said I want daddy to be cyborg. what!!! Ok it ya birthday I’m a Cyborg.”
Unsurprisingly, fans have already started commenting on the photo to make some very appropriate references to 50 Cent’s single, “In Da Club.” After all, the song’s tamer hook does feature lyrics like, “Go shawty / It’s your birthday / We’re going to party like it’s your birthday.” But, when it comes to this birthday bash, the party swapped out bubbly for Teen Titans decor.
In the photo, 50 Cent’s son can be seen wearing a white jacket embroidered with a chibi figure of Raven. As for the rapper, he’s sporting one of Cyborg’s classic looks that featureshi-tech eyewear and electric blue plating. Of course, fans of the Teen Titans cartoons will immediately recognize this outfit as Victor Stone popularized this look on-screen.
Surely, 50 Cent is winning all the brownie points for this birthday get-up. And, what’s more, the cosplay is helping familiarize people with Cyborg ahead of his DCEU debut. While the character was seen briefly in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Cyborg is set to star in The Justice League next November before his standalone film hits in 2020. Ray Fisher, a small-time stage actor, was tapped to play Victor Stone to fans’ surprise. The actor has said he’s been eager to play any role in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) let alone a starring role.
Recalling his audition process, Ray said he went out to California and met with several Warner Bros. executives. “They said, “We have something that may be right for you. We can’t tell you what it is. It’s just in the realm of the Batman/Superman universe.” I was like, “All right, I’m done. Sign me up. I said, ‘I’ll play a tree,”” Ray described. “It moved very, very quickly and I’m extremely grateful that it happened the way that it did, coming up in the theater, grinding for 10 years, trying to make the ends meet. It was a pretty sweet payoff.”
Cyborg, who will be mostly depicted through CGI, may seem like the ultimate technopath – but Ray has warned fans the hero is more flawed than some might expect. The character was only turned into a cyborg after Victor got injured in an accident, leaving his father no choice but to mechanize his son. “His greatest weakness is actually trying not to succumb to the technology. Trying to stay human,” Ray explained.
Hopefully, 50 Cent’s cosplay won’t force him into those kind of straits.
The Justice League is slated to hit theaters November 17 2017. The standalone Cyborg film will then premiere April 3 2020.
