This season of Arrow has been filled with many surprising returns, in part due to the theme of ‘legacy’ pushed throughout the episodes. And now, another – albeit slightly unexpected – character will apparently be making a comeback appearance on the show.

Nick Tarabay, who fans will remember for playing Digger Harkness/Captain Boomerang in the DCTV universe, shared the following picture on his Twitter earlier today:
Who really misses this guy ?

It’s unclear which show in the DCTV universe Tarabay will be reprising his role in, but a pretty safe assumption can be made. Despite Harkness generally being an adversary of Flash in the comics – as was seen with Jai Courtney’s portrayal of the character in last year’s Suicide Squad – this interpretation of him has more often been associated with Arrow.
Harkness made a prominent appearance on Arrow back in 2014, when he served as the primary villain throughout the first two-part crossover between the show and The Flash. The boomerang-wielding assassin ended up being outsmarted by the two heroes, and was placed in the super-max prison on Lian Yu run by A.R.G.U.S. and Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell).
Tarabay’s return is certainly a surprise, given how long it has been since his initial appearance on the show. But there are a couple context clues that could hint at how he returns. Many have speculated (particularly around this office) that the season-long feud between Oliver and Adrian Chase/Prometheus (Josh Segarra) could culminate in Oliver being forced to return to Lian Yu.
For one thing, this would this tie into the aformentioned theme of ‘legacy’, seeing as much of who Oliver is as a person is because of the time he has spent on that island. And in addition, it would directly parallel the flashbacks seen throughout the fifth season – which, following the timeline established in the pilot episode, would lead Oliver being back to that island.
With Harkness still currently being imprisoned at the island, it would be a logical conclusion for him to appear in this storyline in some capacity. Assuming Tarabay is, in fact, in the last two episodes of the season, fans will have to wait until May to see his return.
Arrow airs on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
