When citizens of Detroit woke up last weekend, it probably came as a surprise to see the Bat Signal being shown on the side of the Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit.Unfortunately for comic book fans across Detroit, the caped crusader wasn’t actually in the area:General Motors decided to pull out all of the stops in promoting their part in “The Lego Batman Movie.”

For the upcoming flick, General Motors and Chevrolet partnered to make a life-sized Batmobile out of nothing but Legos.Coming in at 17-feet-long and a whopping 1,700 pounds, the choice vehicle of Batman wasn’t finished until nearly 350,000 individual Lego pieces were used in its design.
It wasn’t a simple process putting together a mock Batmobile built entirely out of Legos.Erik Varszegi and Jeff Rushby, the leads on the project said that the design process took nearly 220 hours while production on the Lego vehicle took over 1,800 hours.Varszegi and Rushby were at the helm of a 68-person team on the project.
The project was a collaborative effort between Chevy/GM, Warner Brothers, and Lego.The design of the life-sized Lego Batmobile was based off the Speedwagon Batman uses in the upcoming movie that premieres in theaters across the country on February 10.
