Despite the mixed response surround its initial release, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has grown to be appreciated by many. And while the film essentially sets in motion the DC Extended Universe we see today, a new fan trailer imagines what that world-building would have been like in the 1990s.

YouTuber Frank Ireland, a.k.a. ChiefBrodyRules, recently shared his concept trailer for the 90s version of the film, which combines popular stars with many of the tropes and thematic effects seen in trailers of that era, even down to the fuzzy VHS-tape quality. You can watch the video below.
The fan trailer incorporates a whole slew of films, from past DC outputs such as Superman Returns and Batman Forever to more timely films such as Serendipity and Hudson Hawk. And the end result, we have to say, is pretty fantastic.
John Cusack and Bruce Willis portray Superman and Batman, respectively, while Jennifer Connelly (who recently appeared in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming) plays Lois Lane. Rounding out the fictional film’s supporting cast are Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor and Denzel Washington as Commissioner Gordon.
“My main goal was to do something different from other fan trailers.” Ireland explained in the video’s description. “They mostly use the same actors and go too serious. I wanted mine to be fun and match the tone of some of my favorite action movies from the 90s (Armageddon, Con Air, Independence Day).”
The channel is no stranger to these perfectly retro mashups, with previous videos combining BvS with Lethal Weapon, as well as Star Wars: The Force Awakens with The Babysitters Club.
