Deadline is reporting that Christine Adams will be playing Lynne Stewart in the pilot episode. Her character is described as “Jefferson’s ex-wife who exudes confidence and intelligence. Although she’s got a mischievous side, she’s not one to be trifled with when it comes to family.”
The British actress is no stranger to the superhero genre, having played S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Anne Weaver in nine episodes throughout the first two seasons of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In addition, Adams played William Earle’s secretary in Batman Begins.
In non-superhero roles, Adams has appeared in Doctor Who, Tron: Legacy, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Black Lightning is being written by Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, who will produce the pilot alongside Greg Berlanti. If the show is picked up to series, it will be the fifth DC-related project Berlanti has on The CW, and will possibly join its sister shows in eventual crossovers.
The synopsis for the potential series reads:
Jefferson Pierce made his choice: he hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend โ Black Lightning.
