Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Pfeiffer says she “loved” playing Catwoman in Tim Burton‘s 1992 Batman Returns, and she wanted to play the feline fatale in her own movie.

“Are you kidding me? In a heartbeat,” Pfeiffer said when asked by the New York Times if she would have done a Catwoman movie. “I loved that part. I felt like I was just getting comfortable and getting used to the claws and the mask, just figuring out how to move in all of that. There was a little bit of talk about that, then that kind of faded away.”

Earlier this summer, Pfeiffer called her Catwoman getup “the most uncomfortable costume I’ve ever been in,” recalling the extensive process that went into sticking her into the skin-tight suit. “They had to powder me down, help me inside and then vacuum-pack the suit,” Pfeiffer said. “They’d paint it with a silicon-based finish to give it its trademark shine.”

The formfitting suit posed another problem: Pfeiffer was unable to use the bathroom while wearing the suit.

“Originally, they didn’t leave me a way to use the restroom in the suit, so that also had to be remedied as well,” Pfeiffer said. “I had those claws, and I was always catching them in things. The face mask was smashing my face and choking me. We had a lot of bugs to work out.”

Even with the physical discomfort that came with portraying Batman’s most famous enemy-slash-lover, Pfeiffer spoke fondly of her time as the Cat to Michael Keaton’s Bat.

“As a young girl, I was completely obsessed with Catwoman,” Pfeiffer noted. “When I heard that Tim was making the film and Catwoman had already been cast, I was devastated. At the time, it was Annette Bening. Then she became pregnant. The rest is history. I remember telling Tim halfway through the script that I’d do the film, that’s how excited I was.”

An unrelated Catwoman would get her own movie in 2004 in the form of Patience Phillips (Halle Berry), with the critically mauled Catwoman still standing as one of the most reviled movies to ever come out of the comic book movie genre.

Pfeiffer will be returning to the superhero genre in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp as Janet van Dyne, the original Wasp and lost wife of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). Ant-Man and the Wasp opens July 6, 2018.
