Earlier this week, Aquaman finally got off to a start when principal filming began on the feature. Australia’s Gold Coast will house the film’s first leg of production as stars like Jason Momoa have already arrived on set. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has also arrived down under, leaving fans to grow more excited over the actor’s take on Black Manta. To celebrate the start of filming, Mateen took to Twitter to celebrate his first day on-set, but the picture has got fans wondering if another star has joined the project in secret.

The picture Mateen shared on social media shows the star standing with a group of indigenous natives to Australia. The group came to bless Aquaman‘s filming, and Mateen can be seen posing for a photo with the group. However, in the second group shot, fans can see a man standing next to him which looks like Michael Beach.
“Grateful to the Indigenous Elders (and youth) for giving us their blessing to work on their land. ๐ฆ๐บ WELCOME TO COUNTRY! ๐ฆ๐บ RESPECT โ๐ฟ,” he captioned the image.
So far, there has been no word on Beach being involved with Aquaman. The actor’s name was no included on the full cast listing provided by Warner Bros. earlier this week. However, there is a role which fans think Beach would be perfectly suited for.
Right now, fans are speculating that Beach may be playing Black Manta’s father. In the comics, the DC Comics villain started off a cutthroat mercenary and treasure hunter who worked with his father. The pair were then hired by a man named Stephen Shin to get blood from Arthur Curry and see if he was from Atlantis. However, the pair were fended off by Arthur’s dad, but the latter man died of a heart attack from the exertion. Enraged by ordeal, Arthur goes to confront Black Manta and his father, and the hero accidentally kills the villain’s father. The baddie then leaves his life of thievery behind to get revenge against Aquaman.
An icon for over 70 years, Aquaman is the King of the Seven Seas. This reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, is committed to protecting the entire globe.
The film is based on characters appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment and will star Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as the sea-dwelling superhero, Amber Heard (Machete Kills) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Atlantean politician Vulko, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Temuera Morrison as Aquaman’s father. It’s being directed by James Wan (Furious Seven, The Conjuring), written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad), and produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder.
