Don’t Breathe has claimed victory at the box office in its opening weekend. The new film from director Fede Alvarez earned $26.1 million in its first weekend at the box office, far surpassing expectations and projections. The film has already more than doubled its $10 million budget.

In Don’t Breathe, Rocky (Jane Levy), Alex and Money are three Detroit thieves who get their kicks by breaking into the houses of wealthy people. Money gets word about a blind veteran who won a major cash settlement following the death of his only child. Figuring he’s an easy target, the trio invades the man’s secluded home in an abandoned neighborhood. Finding themselves trapped inside, the young intruders must fight for their lives after making a shocking discovery about their supposedly helpless victim. The film stars Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto, and Stephen Lang.

While no longer in the top spot at the box office, Suicide Squad still had a stellar weekend. The film in $12.1 million in its fourth weekend, dropping 42 percent from last weekend and bringing its domestic box office total to $282.9 million. By this time next week, Suicide Squad should surpass Man of Steel‘s $291 million box office total. Suicide Squad is on pace to end its run with approximately $310 million domestic.

However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself? This third installment of the DC Extended Universe is written and directed by David Ayer and stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood and Cara Delevingne.

Don’t Breathe and Suicide Squad are both now playing in theaters.
