Gail Simone, legendary DC Comics writer of titles such as Batgirl, Birds of Prey, and Wonder Woman, has a problem with the latest versions of the Amazon princess.
Simone took to Twitter to respond to a few fans who had been asking for her take on the Wonder Woman movie and the revamping of the character on the pages of DC Comics’ New 52 runs. It was there where Simone shared her disapproving perspective of changes made to the character’s origins.

Namely, Simone’s main issue is the New 52 introducing Zeus to the heroine’s origin story. “Of the many reasons to hold a grudge against the New 52, the role of Zeus in Wonder Woman’s birth is top of my list,” comic book writer D.M. Higgins wrote under the Twitter username Superdames Comics. “It’s now in the movie.”

More specifically, Simone had a bone to pick with Warner Bros.’ recently released Wonder Woman film, which was largely a hit among critics and fans: the involvement of a masculine power structure and altering roles of female heroes in the film:

Still, Simone is quick to point out her admiration for the Patty Jenkins-directed film, as it is a property she holds close having started work on it with issue #14 in 2007 and continuing for 30 issues.
