SPOILERS For Tonight’s Gotham episode, “A Legion of Horribles!”

The big bad of Gotham season two has finally been revealed. It’s not Theo Galavan, or the Order of St. Dumas. It’s not Hugo Strange or his menagerie of monsters. No, it’s the COURT OF OWLS.
The Court of Owls was first confirmed in-the-works for Gotham exclusively to Comicbook.com when showrunner Bruno Heller said back in September, “The Court of Owls is deep, deep, deep Gotham mythology. We are absolutely going to explore that world down the line.”
Well, down the line is tonight, as the Court of Owls was revealed. There’s a female leader, and she’s/they’ve been funding the operations at Indian Hill all along. The project, trying to successfully resurrect people, sounds right up the Court of Owls alley, after all.
In the pages of DC Comics, the Court of Owls was introduced as a secret behind-the-scenes group that’s been in Gotham City for generations, helping to guide it along, for their own benefit, of course. They came around in the New 52, and manipulated Bruce Wayne consistently for the last several years. The foot soldiers of the Court are known as Talons. Those slightly inhuman assassins? Agents of theirs raised from the dead to do their bidding once more – starting to sound familiar? Yup.
Take a look through the gallery below to see how the Court of Owls was presented in their first appearance on Gotham, and tune into the season finale next week for more!
