Tonight, Gotham will wraps its third season in an explosive two-hour finale, but fans shouldn’t expect all to be well by its end. Next season, the DC drama will return with a full slate of villains, and it looks like one of DC’s most iconic baddies may get a full-on introduction when it does.

Over on Youtube, DC Entertainment posted a video not long ago which features the cast of Gotham. The stars tease fans about what’s in store for fans tonight. It doesn’t take too long for conversation to turn to season four, and it is there that Ben McKenzie lets a little hint slip. The actor, who plays Jim Gordon, had this to say about next season:

“There are some villains that I’m a fan of that are in season four,” McKenzie said. “I’ve always been keen on the Scarecrow. It would be nice if the Scarecrow showed up.”

Judging by McKenzie’s sly look, there is a pretty good chance that Gotham has plans to introduce Scarecrow. Fans will remember the show already set itself up to bring in Scarecrow as a villain in past episodes. A past storyline on Gotham introduced audiences to Dr. Gerald Crane, the twisted father Scarecrow’s alter-ego Jonathan Crane. In “The Scarecrow,” fans watched as the father injected his young son with a ‘cure’ for fear, but the serum does anything but that. Jonathan’s psyche goes haywire after receiving the dosage, and fans haven’t heard from the Crane boy since.

However, that seems like it’s about to change. If Scarecrow does come back in season four, the boy will likely remain a peer of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle; The show could always age up the villain as they did with Poison Ivy but having the Scarecrow function as a younger villain provides a new twist. Gotham‘s iteration of the Penguin and the Riddler are much older than Bruce, so the Wayne heir can pick one someone his own size with the Scarecrow.

For now, fans will have to wait and see how Gotham plays out tonight. The show’s season three finale might drop a few nods to next season’s baddie, so there is a chance that some Scarecrow easter eggs may be spotted tonight. Fans will want to keep their eyes out for anything that screams ‘SCARECROW’ tonight, that’s for sure.

DESTINY AWAITS – With the deadly virus spreading throughout the city, the search for the antidote continues, as Fish Mooney (guest star Jada Pinkett Smith), The Riddler and Penguin reveal plans of their own. Bruce meets Ra’s Al Ghul (guest star Alexander Siddig) and completes his last task in order to fulfill his destiny, but realizes he can’t let go of his past. Meanwhile, Gordon tries to win back Lee, and past alliances within Gotham City are broken, while new alliances are formed.
