Recently it was revealed that the character of the Black Flash — a kind of grim reaper for speedsters in the comics who is one of a group of “time wraiths” on television who punish time travelers for creating abberations — would not be returning to The Flash, as had been generally theorized, but coming to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Tonight, we found out why.

It’s tied, perhaps unsurprisingly, to why Eobard Thawne hasn’t really been around much in the first half of the season: he’s running from something.
From what, exactly? Time itself, in a way.
If you’ll recall, Thawne’s death at the end of the first season of The Flash wasn’t a traditional death; instead, he was wiped from existence by the death of Eddie Thawne, his ancestor.
And so, as an abberation, he is like catnip for the Black Flash.
Separated from the time wraiths, it’s unclear what exactly the Black Flash’s endgame is — while Eobard’s is to rewrite history to make himself no longer a target.
Tonight, we saw the Legion of Doom finally come together as a team to face the Black Flash in what seemed like a pretty clear homage to Jurassic Park.
That surely won’t be the last either the audience or the Legion of Doom sees of the Black Flash (created, incidentally, when time wraiths caught and tore apart Zoom at the end of The Flash‘s second season). In the meantime, though, we’ve put together a little gallery from tonight’s episode to give fans a closer look at the ugly-looking spud.
