With Legends of Tomorrow nearing the end of it’s second season, some are already wondering where the show will go in season three.

Last year’s Legends finale significantly changed the slate of team members – with Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) dying, as well as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl and Carter Hall/Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) leaving the team – as well as established the fellow superhero team the Justice Society of America.
With that in mind, some are wondering what upcoming plot points – and possibly new characters – will be teased in this second season finale. According to one of the show’s executive producers, Phil Klemmer, the third season of Legends isn’t fully set in stone just yet, but new characters will join the fray in some way.
“We haven’t fully pitched it, but we’ve got great ideas, and hopefully the studio and network agree.” Klemmer explained to ComicBookResources. “But so much of the show is working well this year. You just want to play to your strengths, and keep having fun.”
Klemmer also pointed out that this fluid and fun nature of the show has proven to be valuable in today’s current social and climate.
“In a weird way, it became the show that I think people really needed in this past year โ at least it’s what I needed. When you’re writing an episode, it’s pure escapism. You can do anything you want. ‘The Right Stuff’ is my favorite movie, and last week I had an episode about the Apollo space program. Where else would I have been able to do that?”
While it sounds like there could be some sort of season three tease in the finale, Klemmer said the priority is to wait to make any major changes in the season three premiere.
“Season one, the pilot sends you on this course. It’s like an ocean tanker โ you’re not able to just flip it around. So what really helps is being able to do a clean restart. That’s something we intend to do next season, because it worked so well this past season.”
According to Klemmer, the unique nature of the show allows the team’s slate to constantly be changing – allowing the show to bring in a multitude of characters from the DCTV universe.
“[This season,] we added two new characters, we had two characters that sort of fell out of our orbit โ obviously Wentworth [Miller] has fallen back into our orbit. That’s the wonderful thing about this show. The only thing that has to remain is the Waverider. It’s a time travel show, so the only thing that’s not going to change is that it always changes.”
This news should come as no surprise to Legends fans, especially after recent news that an established DC character – who originated outside of the comic books – will be joining the show in season 3. While speculation is already beginning as to who that character is, fans will just have to wait and see who else steps on the Waverider with them.
