Professor Marston And The Wonder Women might continue “the year of Wonder Woman“, but the film’s cast says it wasn’t intentional.

In an interview with ScreenRant, the film’s cast members addressed the four-month gap in the release dates between the Wonder Woman film and Professor Marston. According to Luke Evans, who plays Professor William Moulton Marston, that wasn’t initially the plan, as the latter film had been in development for almost a decade.

“We had no distribution, nothing when the film was finished.” Evans explained. “And when [director and writer] Angela [Robinson] wrote the story, it was eight years ago, so there was no knowledge or information on it.”

But the Professor Marston cast apparently became aware of the coincidence in 2016, when their film entered production around the same time as Wonder Woman.

“I think we were all excited when we found out they were being made around the same time.” Bella Heathcote, who plays Olive Byrne, revealed. “It was very serendipitous that they happened to come out in the same year, but I remember the feeling being one of excitement and hope.”

Evans echoed this, saying that 2017 couldn’t be a better time to tell the story of Professor Marston.

“It’s a joy to give this story to the world while Wonder Woman is as fresh and loved as she is now,” Evans added, “because of this incredible blockbuster from the summer.”

While Professor Marston might be a contained story, the saga of Wonder Woman certainly doesn’t seem to be. Gal Gadot is set to reprise the role in November’s Justice League, as well as the upcoming Flashpoint film. And of course, the heroine will return in Wonder Woman 2, which will reportedly start production within the year.
