Spaceships play a large role in Supergirl. Kara came to Earth in one, as did Mon-El. Various alien foes have made their way to National City via spacecraft as well and it looks like alien spacecraft will be a factor in season three as well.

Spoilers for Supergirl‘s season three premiere, ‘Girl of Steel’, below.
In tonight’s season three premiere audiences got a brief look at an alien spaceship at the bottom of National City’s harbor. With the triangular-shaped ship with what appeared to be a hole in the center and blue lights running throughout being unlike ships we’ve seen previously it’s unlikely that we’re dealing with another Kryptonian refugee. It also doesn’t match Daxamite or Dominator tech that we’ve seen previously and it certainly doesn’t look like Reign’s pod. So, if it’s not a Kryptonian pod, a Daxamite ship, Rein’s pod, or even a Dominator’s ride, what is it?
Read on for who that spaceship might belong to.
M’yrnn J’onzz
One of the things fans will be seeing in this season of Supergirl is more of the Martian Manhunter’s backstory. J’onn J’onzz’s father, M’yrnn, is set to appear on the show and will give a deeper look at J’onn’s history as well as just how being on Earth has changed him.
What fans know of J’onn is that he is the sole survivor of a “Martian Holocaust” where White Martians killed off Green Martians, including J’onn’s entire family. One thing that audiences have not seen, however, is how J’onn arrived on Earth and with White Martians having found J’onn back in season one, M’yrnn may have also come looking for his son and the ship at the bottom of the harbor could be his.
Saturn Girl
Another character not form Earth appearing this season is Imra Ardeen, also known as the superhero Saturn Girl. In comics, Saturn Girl hails from Saturn’s moon,Titan, and is a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
In comics, Imra has been stranded on Earth (specifically committed to Arkham Asylum) for a little while, though it doesn’t sound like that’s the version we’ll see on the show. With Saturn Girl coming to Earth to help deal with a huge threat — and it being difficult to imagine Saturn Girl without the Legion — maybe her ship landed in the harbor specifically to stay put until she’s needed or until other helpful forces arrive.
Coluans
Another possibility are Coluans. The green-skinned humanoid race with incredible intelligence has been mentioned on Supergirl before. In the first season episode “Solitude,” Indigo mentions the race as well as that they served as supercomputers on Krypton.
In comics, Coluans have ties to Brainiac and, by extension, the Legion of Super-Heroes. If Saturn Girl is already on Earth and she is part of the Legion of Super-Heroes, Coluans arriving as well could make sense. The blue glowing lights on the ship in the harbor is also not unlike the Braniac headpiece.
Another point for the ship belonging to Coluans — and the potential for Legion of Super-Heroes to make their debut? Saturn Girl is considered to be the heart and soul of the Legion in comics according to DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. It would make sense for more Legion members to follow her to Earth.
Durlans
Another alien race with ties to the Legion of Super-Heroes are the Durlans and that ship belonging to the Durlans is possible for another reason. President Olivia Marsdin happens to be a Durlan so even if they aren’t coming for reasons of the Legion, they would have a good reason.
However, it’s worth nothing here that in comics the best-known Durlan is Cameleon Boy from the Legion of Super-Heroes and, more than that, Mon-El even mentioned Durlans last season as well. With many fans thinking Mon-El — who we last saw flying off into space and disappearing into some kind of portal — will return as part of the Legion, and Mon-El having mentioned the race last season as well, that ship really could be Durlan. And the Legion of Super-Heroes could be coming.
