The LEGO Batman Movie has been a rousing box office success, taking fourth place this weekend with $11.6 million in the shadow of Logan‘s massive haul, and earning total domestic earning of $148.6 million to date.

And despite the film doing well enough in most international markets, it failed to resonate with audiences in China where the film just opened over the weekend and subsequently bombed.
Box office score keepers Exhibitor Relations said the film debuted to just $3.6 million in the country, bringing its international total to $108 million.
Those who were expecting a large bump from the LEGO Batman Movie’s Chinese release should have tempered those bets, especially when the first LEGO Movie didn’t even open in the country.
LEGO BATMAN didn’t click in China as it debuted with just $3.6M there. Int’l total is now $108M. UK has built a small fortune w/ $30M.

So expectations of a sequel doing wellโwhen a lot of people never saw the first film in theatersโseems a bit unrealistic.
Exhibitor Relations adds that the film has earned $30 million in the UK, making them another successful territory for Chris McKay and Will Arnett’s film.
But the numbers for China’s box office opening are definitely disappointing, however that doesn’t mean the film is unsuccessful. It sat atop the box offices stateside for two weeks before being knocked off by Jordan Peele’s surprising horror debut Get Out.
The LEGO Batman Movie is in theaters now.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure: The LEGO Batman Movie. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.
Will Arnett reprises his starring role from The LEGO Movie as the voice of LEGO Batman, aka Bruce Wayne. Zach Galifianakis (Hangover films) stars as The Joker; Michael Cera (TV’s Arrested Development) as the orphan Dick Grayson; Rosario Dawson (TV’s Daredevil) as Barbara Gordon; and Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter films) as Alfred.
