If you haven’t been keeping up with comic culture as of late, then you may have missed some startling news regarding Batgirl. Last week, reports surfaced that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment were looking to bring Barbara Gordon to life under the careful watch of Joss Whedon. News suggests that the famed director is close to signing onto a Batgirl project which would be directed, written, and produced under his command. And, as you may have guessed, the Internet had lot to say about the sudden reveal.

After dabbling in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the Avengers, Whedon took a break from superhero affairs following Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, it doesn’t look like the director could stay away from the genre for long. There has been no further comment on the development since reports broke last week, but fans are split over their acceptance of Whedon. Some fans hold their reservations about his involvement while others have welcomed the geek icon with open arms.

Apparently, the director of Wonder Woman is one such fan. In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Patty Jenkins had nothing but praise for Whedon and his reported work with Batgirl.

“I don’t even know if that deal is done or not โ€“ I don’t have the inside scoop on that,” she told the publication. “But if it is done, then I’m excited about it.”

“I think it’s super exciting,” Jenkins continued. “The tone of Joss’ work is great for female superheroes. He takes such a fun approach and I think he’ll have fun in the DC universe, which will be excited to have him.”

Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that’s raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.

Wonder Woman is directed by Patty Jenkins, from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg & Geoff Johns, story by Heinberg & Zack Snyder and Jason Fuchs, and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, Saรฏd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner and David Thewlis.

Wonder Woman currently has a 4.06 out of 5 ComicBook User Anticipation Rating, making it the ninth most anticipated upcoming comic book movie among ComicBook.com readers. Let us know how excited you are about Wonder Woman by giving it your own ComicBook User Anticipation Rating below.
