Wonder Woman: New Concept Art Takes Diana From Battlefield to the Streets

More than 75 years after the character debuted in comics pages, Wonder Woman is finally getting her first big screen feature film courtesy of director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Godot—currently our 6th Most Anticipated Film as rated by ComicBook readers.

While Godot portrayed the character in last year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, she was a minor character in the grand scheme of the movie. And now she gets her own starring role.

Gearing up for the film’s release, Empire revealed some new concept art for the film that help established the look and tone. The stills have yet to be released online, but they’ve managed to make their way online.

They seem to capture the fish-out-of-water theme that will probably make up the first portion of the film, when Diana Prince leaves Thymiscira and the Amazons to help Steve Trevor in a mission to stop Ares amid the backdrop of the Great War.

In one, Wonder Woman brandishes her trademark sword and shield amid the backdrop of a flaming battlefield. It seems to match up with the scenes from the trailer, which depict her riding through a war zone on horseback.

The second depicts her cloaked form as she struts through a busy street with a regal quality, as is befitting royalty, while onlookers gawk and Trevor attempts to cover her up.

Scenes from concept artwork are rarely translated onto film exactly as depicted—they’re meant to provide the filmmakers with visual aid so they can establish the story’s appearance. But these would both be welcome sights if they actually made the cut.
