We’ve already seen one key element that will be coming from the Fighter Pack 3 for Injustice 2, with the Atom. And keep in mind that’s not including what’s still to come from Fighter Pack 2, with Hellboy set to debut sometime next month.

But the best – and biggest – fighter reveal could still be yet to come. Two more fighters have yet to be shown from Fighter Pack 3, and while we’ve got a few estimated guesses that the first is Enchantress, that leaves a whole lot of questions open regarding who the second one is.
Let’s talk about who this mysterious, game-changing fighter could be…
Todd McFarlane’s Spawn
Spawn is no stranger to video games, as he’s appeared in a number of titles over the past few years for SNES, Dreamcast and Sony PlayStation. He also made a worthwhile appearance as a playable character in Soul Calibur II, even without his trademark cape.
But now Ed Boon is hinting that we could possibly see him in Injustice 2, though he doesn’t mention him by name. In the video above (put together by Dynasty), Boon explains (at about the 1:15 minute mark), “We have another fighter pack that we’re gonna be announcing pretty soon. In that fighter pack, there is a character who’s gonna be a bigger surprise than any – any character we’ve ever done, Mortal Kombat or Injustice. So, you know, keep an eye out for that one – that’s gonna raise a lot of attention from people.” And the announcement is coming “this year.”
Spawn would fit in that surprise mold. He’s been a heavily recommended character for the series, and seeing how NetherRealm is going out of its way to get some of the best comic characters around (like Hellboy), we’d be shocked if we don’t see him.
But…on the other hand…
Watchmen’s Rorschach
Another character that would qualify as a surprise is Rorschach from the Watchmen comic book series. A character in a trenchcoat was hinted at in the past, and, aside from Constantine, this detective is well known for wearing such a coat, and kicking all sorts of ass, as you could see from the Watchmen film of the same name.
Considering that Watchmen products are still getting a great deal of promotion these days, Rorschach would be an ideal addition, and still qualify as a “surprise” from the team. Some people want Spawn more, and we get that, but Rorschach would be just as welcome. “Your hands, my pleasure.”
Solid Snake
Here’s an oddball choice that would also fit the bill – Solid Snake. True, Snake’s already done his fair share of fighting in various Super Smash Bros. games, but he’d fit right into the world of Injustice 2 with his stealth fighting skills and weaponry.
Additionally, Ed Boon and Hideo Kojima recently posed together for a picture at the Brazil Game Show, which of course got everyone talking. Listen, we have to allow these people to be normal human beings who have colleagues, friends, and industry acquaintances whom they respect, but you have to admit that the picture does make it fun to speculate.

While Kojima is no longer working on the Metal Gear franchise (he’s currently taking on Death Stranding for Sony), he’s still associated with it, so it could be possible that Boon is teasing his inclusion (don’t hold your breath).
Out Of Left Field?
As we’ve seen from the past, NetherRealm Studios has been known to throw us off our game when it comes to including surprise characters in its fighting game. Look at Alien, Predator and Leatherface in Mortal Kombat XL, as well as the announcement of Hellboy in Injustice 2 as examples.
So who could we see? Well, NetherRealm has ties with the WWE universe with WWE Immortals, so a WWE wrestler wouldn’t be out of the question. John Cena? Maybe. Roman Reigns? Likely, though his fan base is definitely mixed. Doink the Clown? Hey, now we’re talking completely crazy.
For that matter, some have also suggested that a South Park character could be announced for the game. The Coon is a superhero, right?! This would be an interesting cross-promotion with Ubisoft’s South Park: The Fractured But Whole, which launches this Tuesday, but, then again, the character height might make it difficult to fight someone at full size. Plus, the only South Park character that really dies in a gruesome manner is Kenny, and we haven’t seen him in years.
A few other fans have made suggestions in this Reddit, including the Crimson Chin (how’s that for left field?) and others. But, truthfully, NetherRealm could have a rather big surprise waiting for us. Hopefully we’ll find out after we get the first Hellboy gameplay video later this month.
Injustice 2 is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
