Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers was originally released in 1998 and is now available on Steam for the first time after 27 years. It is even Steam Deck verified, but this isn’t the only surprise for players. The biggest quality-of-life feature is the addition of Rollback Netcode, one of the best ways to play fighting games. This system provides a seamless connection between players and practically eliminates input delay and buffering.

Veterans familiar with Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers will love the return of its huge roster, including classics like Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui, Blue Mary, Duck King, and more. New characters in this game are Rick Strowd and Li Xiangfei, as well as the secret character, Alfred. To celebrate this milestone, players can enjoy a new gallery mode featuring 59 pieces of artwork showcasing the cast of characters.

The other new feature is a brand new lobby system. It supports up to 9 players and offers multiple tournament formats for Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers. This allows for multiple players to link up and play together like never before with this title.

This surprise release follows Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, which has proven to be successful and a return to form for the series. Fans can pick up this title on multiple platforms, while Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers has only been released on PC at this time. While it is more limited in its availability, it will only set fans back $19.99 compared to City of the Wolves’ $59.99 price tag.

It is a good time for fighting game fans. Street Fighter 6 is entering its third year and hitting a good stride. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is on the horizon and is poised to be the next big thing from Arc System Works. Coinciding with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Sony revealed the FlexStrike Wireless Fight Stick to show its new interest in the fighting game community. The future is looking up for this genre, but it’s good to see older titles like this make a return.
