BioWare may have started 2017 off on the wrong foot with the rocky launch of Mass Effect: Andromeda, but chances are a lot of people are already willing to forgive the studio after seeing the full gameplay reveal for their new action game, Anthem.

BioWare announced Anthem at Saturday’s EA Play briefing via a brief trailer. That teaser, which had elements of both Horizon Zero Dawn and Destiny, began with a view of a massive, intimidating wall. We then got brief glimpses of intimidating monsters, lush environments, and an armored warrior of some sort. Well, that was nothing! The full Anthem gameplay reveal, which you can check out above, provides a ton of new details.
We start off inside the walled city, with is full of clutter and people, and generally gives off a strong Star Wars vibe. It seems you’re a “Freelancer,” and somebody quickly approaches you with a job outside the walls. With a mission now in hand, you slip into your Iron Man-like armor, called a “Javelin,” and take flight! The wilderness surrounding the city is a lush jungle environment, filled with strange creatures and hostile races. Needless to say, Anthem does not take place on Earth. Anthem actually looks very reminiscent of Nintendo’s Xenoblade Chronicles X, just with vastly improved graphics. Trust me, that’s a good thing.
While this is our first look at Anthem, previously codenamed Dylan, we’ve known of the game’s existence since E3 2014, where BioWare announced, in very vague terms, they were working on a new IP. Unfortunately, we won’t be playing the game for a while โ EA and BioWare also announced the game won’t be coming out until their next fiscal year, which means the game could come out as late as March 2019.
