Some pretty big games have been scrapped in recent years, and it feels like the superhero games were hit especially hard. Warner Bros. Wonder Woman game is no longer moving forward, and EA has also scrapped its take on Black Panther. Thankfully, some long awaited games are still moving forward, including Insomniac’s Wolverine. But even so, it’s hard to mourn what might have been from some of these projects. And recently, fans got to see firsthand just what we could’ve gotten from a cancelled DC video game project thanks to a concept artist’s reveal.

Recently, Concept Artist Jerad S. Marantz treated fans to a look at a now-scrapped DC project. Marantz has previously worked on several designs from the DC Extended Universe, including Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Apparently, he also did some character artwork for a DC game that never saw the light of day. And seeing his designs for some iconic heroes and villains, many fans are wishing the game (or possibly games, plural) could become reality.
Bizarro, Batman, and More Could’ve Starred in Snyder-Inspired DC Game
DC video games have had a rough go of it in recent years, especially compared with the success of games like Marvel Rivals and Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League did not perform the way Warner Bros. likely hoped. So, it’s not terribly surprising that some other DC projects might’ve been scrapped, given the struggle that these recent games had with finding their audience. But Batman has historically done pretty well in the video game department, and this game looks like it would’ve starred our Caped Crusader alongside some iconic villains.
In the concept art that Marantz shared, we got a look at a very Ben Affleck-inspired take on The Dark Knight. According to the captions, this concept was for a game within the Arkham universe and was intended to show an older version of Batman. You can definitely see the wear and tear on the suit and in Batman’s general visage, and it’s certainly a very Snyderverse-inspired take on the character, as well.
In addition to these images, Marantz also shared several looks at Bizarro. It’s unclear if this character was for the same Batman game or another DC project, such as the scrapped Superman game from WB Montreal. However, Marantz does note it was from a game that is no longer being made, meaning we aren’t likely to battle this version of Bizarro in-game any time soon. It’s a shame, too, because this Bizarre is inspired by the Superman animated series and a splash of Alex Ross’ version. It’s a straightforward and perfect take on the character, who is a twisted mirror image of Superman himself.
Along with these characters, Marantz also shows off a few more designs for cancelled DC games that might’ve been. Another carousel reveals a truly terrifying version of Parasite, another Superman villain, and King Shark from the Batman franchise. It seems like we might’ve been working towards either one really cool Batman v. Superman crossover game or two DC games starring some of the DCEU’s biggest heroes. It would’ve been really cool to see these versions of the characters come to life in a game, but alas, it doesn’t seem it was meant to be. That said, Marantz makes his willingness to return to these characters one day pretty clear, so WB and DC certainly know who to call if we ever do get a new game featuring this cast of DC characters. And with those Batman Arkham game rumors, it could be sooner rather than later.
