Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale Gets First Details Ahead of Playtest

Battlefield 6‘s battle royale mode has gotten its first official details ahead of an upcoming playtest. The battle royale genre has been around within gaming for about a decade now. While it really took off with games like PUBG and Fortnite starting in 2017, the genre had some humble beginnings within mods for games like Arma. It was a revolutionary concept at the time and just about every shooter franchise out there (with the exception of Halo, oddly enough) has taken some kind of crack at their take on a battle royale game. The genre has grown to be a bit crowded as a result, but there’s still demand for worthy new players in the genre.

With that said, Battlefield 6 teased its long-rumored battle royale mode back in July and had fans very excited. The tease was very brief, only showing a ring of fire around an area that appeared to be similar to Los Angeles. Since then, leaks have revealed the full map for Battlefield 6‘s battle royale which is pretty big and suggested that things like destruction will play a pivotal role in the mode. It’s Battlefield’s second go at a battle royale with the first one being in Battlefield V. Battlefield 2042 also had an extraction mode, similar to a battle royale, called Hazard Zone, but neither of these modes made any kind of notable impression among fans.

Battlefield 6‘s Battle Royale Will Have 100 Players, Vehicles, and More

With that said, Battlefield Studios has confirmed that Battlefield 6‘s battle royale will enter playtesting through Battlefield Labs this weekend. This will allow players to get a feel for the mode themselves, which is expected to arrive in the game sometime after release. It’s unclear if the battle royale will be free-to-play, but rumors have suggested this will likely be the case. The team also provided first ever details on the battle royale.

Battlefield 6‘s battle royale will have 100 players per match, made up of 25 squads of 4 players in the playtest, but it’s unclear if that will be the case in the final version. Players will be able to drive common ground vehicles that they find around the map, but will also have the opportunity to unlock armored vehicles that can change the tide of war. The Battlefield 6 battle royale will also have the deadliest ring in a BR ever. It will immediately kill anyone who touches it, so you technically won’t ever even be able to go out of bounds. If you’re not actively in it, your character will die. There’s no strategy or ways to use the circle to your advantage, it is there to push you into conflict.

Players will be able to bring their own class into the battle royale and gadgets (like ammo resupply) will be part of the gameplay. Battlefield Studios will be observing how players use classes and gadgets during the playtest to see what needs to be balanced. Battlefield 6‘s battle royale also has in-match missions that can unlock rewards such as redeployments for dead teammates, better weapons, and “vehicle keys”, likely for more armored vehicles like tanks. There will even be items that allow players to call in air strikes.

All in all, it looks like the core Battlefield experience is being retained in Battlefield 6‘s battle royale. Class play, vehicles, destruction, and large scale warfare are all present in this battle royale. Although these play tests are under NDA, that hasn’t stopped gameplay from leaking in the past. As a result, you can probably expect some gameplay to leak out this weekend.

Battlefield 6 will launch on October 10th. What do you think of the Battlefield 6 battle royale? Leave a comment below and join the conversation now in theย ComicBook Forum!
