9 Minutes of Battlefield 6‘s battle royale gameplay has hit the internet has leaked, much to the surprise of fans. The battle royale genre is massive, but it’s not super welcoming to new blood. It is dominated primarily by games like Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, and even PUBG to some extent. Games like Splitgate 2 tried to add a battle royale, but they didn’t really make an impression on audiences. As a result, developers have turned to battle royale-esque concepts like extraction shooters to try and carve out their own space in the market. Still, some fans have longed to see big franchises like Halo take a crack at battle royale, but to no avail.

With that said, it seems like Battlefield 6 is going to try its hand at the battle royale genre. After months of rumors, Battlefield Studios teased a battle royale mode at the end of July. The mode doesn’t have an official name yet or any real details, but it was confirmed that they’d start playtesting it with Battlefield Labs players sometime soon. While it doesn’t seem like we are quite there yet, some footage of the map has leaked online and it paints an interesting picture of the mode.
Battlefield 6 Battle Royale Gameplay Leaks Online

Roughly 9 minutes of Battlefield 6‘s battle royale mode has surfaced online, but it’s not what you think. It appears someone may have found a way to get into the map, but there are no other players or any real mechanics in place to showcase it. It’s more of a tour of the map. As shown off by bilibili streamer Misako_Mikato_01, upon spawn, the player is able to parachute into the map and find a spot to land.
You’ll be able to swim, run around, and likely utilize vehicles. A golf cart can even be seen at one point in the Battlefield 6 gameplay footage, but it’s unclear if it can be driven. Although tanks, armored jeeps, and jets are the typical Battlefield vehicles, there have been times where you can commandeer more silly civilian vehicles.
Battlefield 6‘s destruction also appears to be present, as the player went around and took out walls with a sledgehammer. Some fans were skeptical that the game’s destruction would translate into Battle Royale due to the scale of the mode. Not only will there likely be more players than the typical Battlefield match, but the map is also likely significantly bigger. Battlefield 6 has cut out features like ray-tracing to be as performant as possible and developers are trying to be cognizant of memory limitations, but it seems like they may pull it off. If that level of destruction remains, this could be a game changing take on the battle royale genre.
