With the new Zombies Chronicles expansion for Call of Duty: Black Ops III set to arrive next week on PlayStation 4 (and soon after on Xbox One and PC), Activision has pushed its hype into overdrive, releasing a new trailer that takes a closer look at the timeline that stretches across the eight included maps in the expansion.

In the trailer, we see bits and pieces of text come together in one continuous storyline, with certain connections made between each of the maps. It can be a bit cryptic – and quick, if you don't hit the pause button at just the right time – but it's a moving trailer that, like the previous one we featured, sets a magnificent tone for the forthcoming expansion.

We did manage to catch a few excerpts from the trailer that fans will find intriguing, including the following:

  • August 30, 1925 – Doctor Edward Richtofen joins the Illuminati.
  • November 5, 1934 – Samantha Maxis is born. Her mother dies in childbirth.
  • October 12, 1945- Groph radios Richtofen to inform him that the device has been powered up and is awaiting the conduit. Richtofen says he will proceed with Operation Shield and dispose of Maxis and Samantha.
  • October 15, 1945 – Though frustrated that the "matter transference tests…have been largely unsuccessful," Maxis acknowledges that the test subjects (departure) from their original point of origin is undeniable. However, Richtofen's suggestion that the subjects have been transported not through space, but time itself causes Maxis to worry if his irrationality may soon prove a liability to our endeavors.
  • October 13, 1945- Maxis and Richtofen perform teleportation test trials on Test Subjects Number 3, 4 and 5. All fail, including Test 5, where Maxis uses Fluffy. During the sixth test, Fluffy is teleported back into the chamber, changed. Samantha sees Fluffy and runs into the teleporter. Maxis chases after her. Richtofen seals them inside and activates the teleporter.

From what we've gathered thus far, all hell is about to break loose – and that's where the Zombies come in. You can check out the full trailer above to see what other hints you catch.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. There's also a version for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but it will not be receiving this expansion.
