Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered has been no stranger to criticism since the remastering project was announced, and the latest issues the game is facing come in the form of some overwhelmingly negative Steam reviews.

Players were none too happy that the game would be tied to select purchases of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and if having to buy a lesser-wanted game just to get a much-anticipated remaster wasn't upsetting enough, players were outraged when the game went on sale as a standalone title, something that was not part of the deal when the game was first announced. Couple all of that with a whopping $40 price tag for a year-old remastered game that's offering DLC and it's no wonder that Steam reviews are absolutely destroying the game.

While the above issues would certainly be enough to drive some frustrated players to give the game poor reviews based off of complaints not related to gameplay, performance issues in-game are actually one of the driving factors in the negative reviews.

Complaints of poor server optimization, updates that cause issues for gamers' computers, unwanted additions to the base game that ship with the updates, and caps on the FPS are just a few of the many problems that players cite in their reviews. Plenty of players went on all-caps rampages against the game with the word "garbage" being used quite a bit, but one user's review seems to sum up the majority of the thoughts succinctly.

"At this point, I'm just gonna stick with the original COD4, where that game still has the great netcode and just really good nostaliga feel," wrote Steam reviewer Blazeris The Cat. "I thought the whole point of Remastered games is the game to have the exact same thing as the original but more optimized and better looking, and just really better stuff that COD4 could've had, but this game has become a big disaster and [has] really unnecessary addons."

After being on the standalone market for just two days, the game has already racked up just under 370 reviews with only 35 percent of them being positive. As the playerbase grows with the game being on the market longer, the reviews may change their tone, but for now, players aren't thrilled with the remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
