Dead Island 3 Teased by Developer, Hints at New Location

Dead Island 3 appears to be in the works and it will take the series to another new location. The Dead Island series has been around for quite some time, despite there only being a couple of games in the series. Dead Island was released in 2011 and gained a lot of attention for its emotionally-charged advertisements, particularly one revolving around a vacationing family that is tragically killed by zombies. A follow-up known as Dead Island: Riptide was released within two years, though it wasn’t very well-received. However, fans were excited by another sequel known as Dead Island 2 which would be set in LA. However, it would take nearly a decade for it to be released.

Thankfully, Dead Island 2 was actually pretty good, despite its troubled development. Fans never thought they’d see the day where it would actually release given it changed developers and had so many hurdles to overcome, but it was actually very fun. It was somewhat small in scale as the game lacked vehicles and was surprisingly confined, possibly a result of the game being compromised in its development. However, according to developer Dambuster, over 20 million people people have played Dead Island 2 which makes it a roaring success. Dead Island 2 was well-supported post-launch, likely keeping players coming after its release.

Dead Island 3 Is in the Works

As a result of its success, Dambuster has announced that the developer is already working on Dead Island 3 (or whatever the official title ends up being). No concrete details were shared on the game, unfortunately, but a teaser image does seem to hint that players will leave LA and head to a new location. A character can be seen trying to hitch a ride in the desert, likely still on the west coast of the United States. His bag has a bunch of stickers on it that reference LA, Banoi Island (the location of the original game), and new locations such as Ireland, Rome, and Australia.

It seems unlikely Dead Island 3 would be a total globetrotting adventure, so some of these locations are probably red herrings to avoid actually confirming the setting. It’s possible that Dambuster is considering a variety of locations right now and therefore doesn’t want to commit or wants to use fan reactions to dictate where the series heads next. Either way, more zombie slaying goodness is on the way. Hopefully, it won’t take as long as Dead Island 2, but it seems like Dambuster has gained their footing and knows what to do with this series.
