PC Players Reporting Mass Bans in Destiny 2 for No Reason

If you're a streamer, if you're the type of person who likes to monitor your PC performance while playing a game, if you're a power user: there's a good chance you've been banned from playing Destiny 2 on PC. Today we're seeing reports that hundreds of PC gamers have been banned from the game, seemingly without reason. After a little digging it was speculated that Destiny 2 detects any outside program on your PC that injects code into the game and triggers a ban.

The problem is that many harmless programs do this, including any program that creates custom overlays and chat windows for streamers. Streaming and monitoring software generally might trigger this, and players have been warned against using programs like OBS, XSPLIT, Fraps, Discord, MSI Afterburner, and more. Players are assuming that it's programs like these causing the bans to trigger, and bans cannot be overturned. According to Bungie's help page: "There are NO options to dispute or overturn account restrictions or bans."

Well, this made players very angry.

Bungie community manager "Cozmo" chimed in on the forums to assert that these programs were not resulting in bans. "Third-party applications that aren't compatible with Destiny 2 may cause the game to not run," he said, "but won't result in a ban." He think links to a help page about different streaming applications that may cause the game to not run properly.

The statement didn't exactly soothe the fears or fury of the masses of banned players, but Bungie is hoping to have more information shortly. In the meantime, we recommend playing the game in as "vanilla" a state as possible, and save the streaming and capturing for later.
