Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners got a crack at the Destiny 2 beta earlier this summer, getting a taste of what’s in store for the forthcoming Bungie sequel when it arrives on store shelves in just a few weeks. But some PC fans were wondering when they would get a turn. Fortunately, it’s not too far off.

Activision has announced today that the Destiny 2 open beta will launch on August 29th, well before the game’s October 24th release date, where it will be available exclusively through the Battle.net service.
“Beginning August 29, players worldwide are invited to experience Destiny 2 on PC, including the opening story mission, ‘Homecoming,’ along with cooperative and competitive modes,” the team announced today. “All who pre-order Destiny 2 can jump into the action with early access to the beta on August 28th.”
There’s no end date given in the announcement, but it’s likely the beta will only last a few days, and perhaps running through Labor Day weekend. Not a bad way to end the summer, right?
On top of that, Activision also released a new trailer for the game, announcing the open beta and giving players an idea of what they can expect in terms of visuals and performance. (Your PC may vary, obviously.) You can watch the trailer above to get an idea of what you can expect.
If that’s not enough, the team at NVIDIA have also collaborated with Bungie and Activision to coincide with the forthcoming beta, showing off what its tech will be capable of with the PC version of the game, featuring 4K, uncapped framerates, “a full suite of adjustable graphics settings, full keyboard and mouse support, and 21:9 monitor support,” according to the company’s press announcement.
The beta will give you the opportunity to see how well your PC can withstand a game like Destiny 2, and whether you need updated video cards or not to get the maximum performance out of it. But it’s free, so you don’t have to worry about giving it a test drive to see how everything holds up.
Destiny 2 releases on September 6th for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and October 24th for PC.
