Peacemaker Twist Forces Fortnite to Remove John Cena Emote & Issue Apology

Fortnite has removed a new Peacemaker emote and may begin issuing refunds following the show’s latest episode. James Gunn’s Peacemaker is a prominent piece of the DC Universe, despite the fact it centers on a pretty niche character that is extremely R-rated. Gunn has promised that Peacemaker will be have have massive set-up for Man of Tomorrow, the next Superman film that is due out in 2027, but that fans won’t have to watch it to understand the sequel. Given it’s a very adult show, one has to imagine there are a lot of younger Superman fans that aren’t going to watch this.

Spoilers for Peacemaker Episode 6 follow below.

The last episode of Peacemaker shocked fans, partially because it confirmed a major fan theory. The show sees Peacemaker exploring an alternate universe where everything seems to be sunshine and rainbows. His father is happy and loves him, there’s a general sense of peace, but Episode 6 reveals it’s a carefully constructed illusion. This alternate universe in Peacemaker is known as Earth X in the comics and is a universe where Nazis rule. White people make up the population and based on a comment in the last episode, it seems like black people do exist, but they are kept somewhere else away from the public.

Fortnite Removes Peacemaker Season 2 Dance Emote After Latest Episode

With that said, Fortnite has had to re-evaluate an emote that was released to celebrate Peacemaker Season 2. Epic Games has disabled the “Peaceful Hips” emote and is investigating the intention of the dance move. Depending on the results, the emote may be removed permanently and refunds will be issued in the coming days. As a result, Epic had to apologize for the inconvenience.

The emote is a piece of Peacemaker Season 2’s opening dance number and didn’t seem to mean much until the latest episode. Since then, people have theorized that one of the moves that Peacemaker does, where he throws one arm up and the other arm down, resembles a swastika. Some fans have even pointed to an anti-Nazi Donald Duck short where the animated character does the same move, suggesting Gunn may have pulled inspiration from that.

Additionally, Gunn has been on record saying that nobody outside of the team working on the show had seen Peacemaker Episode 6, not even his publicist, before it aired to keep spoilers under wraps. It’s likely Warner Bros.’ licensing team nor Epic had any context to what was coming in the back half of the show. As of right now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens, but this emote may not be coming back.
