A much-anticipated patch for Friday the 13th: The Game was the main thing that Xbox One players were hoping to receive, but some of them got that update and a bit more when the game’s now less exclusive Savini Jason skin was available for a very short time.

Out of nowhere, the Jason variation appeared through the Microsoft store and was free to download, though content has since been taken down. That didn’t stop many players from getting it before the deal was removed, so if you’ve seen an influx of hellish Jason’s prowling the game’s maps on the Xbox One, it probably has something to do with this brief hiccup.
The Savini Jason is a skin that was supposed to be exclusive to those who backed the game during the very early phases of development, but it’s really much more than a skin. Calling it a skin would imply that it has purely cosmetic changes, and while it definitely changes the way that Jason looks, it also gives him his own set of strengths and weakness like the other Jason versions do.
Since the game came out back in May, Savini Jason has been a point of contention for players due to the way that it was released and the individualized attributes that it came with. Several backers had issues receiving their bonus content, and the content also had a similarly brief sale on the PlayStation 4 version through the PlayStation store where players who bought it were permitted to keep it before the listing was removed. The Jason DLC showing up in-store was said to be an accident both times, but many players wondered why there would even be a listing for the content in the stores at all if it was supposed to be a backer-exclusive item, especially after the game’s team firmly stated that it’d never be sold again.
As for the latest distribution of the content on the Xbox One, an initial tweet from the Illfonic, the game’s developers, said that the sale was a mistake and those Xbox One players wouldn’t be keeping the skin for very long. The tweet has since been deleted, and the one seen below is their current stance on the issue.

Given that PlayStation 4 players got to keep their Savini Jason, it makes sense that Xbox One players will be able to as well. However, that would mean that PC players will be the only platform not to get an opportunity to download the content, but there’s been no word on how that new issue will be approached at this time.
