Grand Theft Auto VI fans are bracing for more bad news following a new rumor. There are few games that have as much enthusiasm behind them as GTA 6. This will likely not just be one of the biggest video games ever, but one of the biggest pop culture events of all-time. Rockstar Games has also recently claimed that it will be the biggest video game launch ever. Rockstar Games has likely been granted an ungodly budget as well as a ton of time to craft what will likely be one of the biggest, most detailed open-world games out there and fans are anxious for it.

Earlier this year, GTA 6 was delayed to May 2026 after previously locking in a fall 2025 release window. Fans began to doubt the game would hit that date after rumors suggested it was an unrealistic timeline and a lack of any news from Rockstar for months had some fearing the worst. Of course, Rockstar tried to make up for the delay by providing dozens of GTA 6 screenshots and a new trailer which gave us a much better look at the highly anticipated game. There seems to be a lot more confidence that Rockstar will hit its May 2026 release date for GTA 6, but some insiders are casting doubt.
GTA 6 Delay Rumors Are Swirling Once Again
According to Tom Henderson, a pretty reliable journalist known for breaking all kinds of news in the gaming industry at Insider Gaming, he can’t see GTA 6 releasing in May. He cited “rumblings” about a delay or uncertainty in the date, but noted he hasn’t heard anything firm enough to corroborate it to claim that it is definitely being delayed. He believes GTA 6 is more likely to be delayed to October 2026 to capitalize on holiday sales and allow Rockstar time to make the game that it wants to make. Henderson noted that he believes that the delay would be announced in November during Take-Two’s next investors call.
If GTA 6 does get delayed again, it would be pretty devastating. Fans have been extremely patient and the constant push backs are pretty frustrating. Of course, it’s all in service of making a better game, but it feels like it always happens when we’re really close to actually getting the game. It would be shocking if GTA 6 didn’t release in 2026 as investors are likely really counting on it to hit next year. It’s a massive release and it’s likely it would get pushed out unless there was something seriously wrong that required more time.
